Absence (unfinished)
Jul. 3rd, 2005 05:30 pmAbsence.
(Makes the heart grow fonder, but)
I beg for poetry, try to chase away
The silence with a verse aloud.
I am let alone in the hungry dark.
The heart loses its rhythm,
Meandering down long roads where
It means to find you.
I sleep, my heart weeps earthy tears
In secret, to the belly of the livid jungle.
Distantly, on waking, I can hear
A yearning song that echoes in the ice,
In the ten thousand cut veins of a glacier.
In daylight hours, my mind resumes a search
While my heart sleeps dreamlessly.
I peel away the chrysalis from the snapping fire.
I crawl through long caves of tacit logic.
Here I hunt your scent, the rumor of your presence
But find only the sweet, melting ache to know that
My own arms are not strong enough
To deliver you here.
[I haven't worked on this in a long time. It's still not quite... right. Maybe there's more to be written. I'm not sure.]
